Materials research is carried out worldwide. However, not all researchers are able to acquire all the helpful tools. Therefore, the FIZ Karlsruhe Advancing Crystallography Education Programme (FACE) was established to support research and education in structural chemistry in eligible developing countries through access to the ICSD. The FACE programme provides access to ICSD Web at campus level for three years.
The program was coordinated with the comparable programme FAIRE of CCDC. Interested parties of the eligible countries should have the possibility to use both products for their work in the field of materials research. More information about the FAIRE programme can be found at CCDC.
Beneficiaries of both programmes are expected to provide a brief annual summary of use for the duration of the FACE/FAIRE award and a brief summary of research or educational use at the end of the three-year period. Researchers may reapply after three years.
We hope that this programme will enable educators and scientists to train the next generation of scientists and meet new challenges in inorganic materials research.
Who can apply?
Academic researcher from eligible countries can apply.
How long will the FACE award last?
Each award lasts for up to three years. In order to extend the license for year two and three you will have to submit a short report on the work you have conducted using the ICSD, and a list of publications resulting from this work.
After the three-year period you may reapply for another period. For this application you must provide a summary of your usage of ICSD.
Is there anything else I have to do?
You must cite the ICSD and acknowledge the FACE programme in any publications based on results obtained from ICSD.
Are there any limitations for the use of ICSD?
By applying for the FACE programme you accept our terms and conditions for the licensing of ICSD (with the exception of the payment terms). In addition the ICSD Web access includes a limit for the number of yearly downloads of CIF files. This limit will be set to 10,000 and it will not be increased.
Researchers and Educators in the following countries are eligible to apply for the FACE programme.
